The Day I Met My Mom

I was born on July 29, 2017, near Bromont, Quebec.  I remember having brothers and sisters, but they all left before me, to go to their new homes.  You all know me as Appy now, but my original name was Nelly, after my mom.

On September 25, they told me my new family was coming to pick me up.

I waited.  And waited.

I waited some more.

And then, suddenly, somebody scooped me up and took me outside.  My new peeps had finally arrived!

A lady took me in her arms and immediately gave me kisses on my head.  “Hello little one.  I am your new momma.” I met Tanya.

I gazed up at her.

“Your name is going to be Apothic Red Nelly Maier,” she told me.  “Or Appy for short.” She didn’t waste any time.

“Appy, you are named after one of momma’s favourite red wines,” Tanya told me.

I looked up at her, thinking, what’s red wine? Glad I didn’t know. Thinking now there might have been a theme.

“OMG, she’s adorable!!” cooed the voice of another human.

“Appy, this is Amelia and she’s your auntie.” I met the “other human”.

Okay, cool. What’s an auntie?  I still haven’t figured out red wine.

My new mom gave me to Amelia, and she took out her phone.  She had to finalize the transaction. Apparently, I can be bought!

I think I was a lot of money since Tanya still sings to me to this day “We got another pup, and her name is Appy. She cost $800 dollars and that’s a lot of money.  That’s A LOT OF MONEY!”

We had to wait until the e-transfer went through.  We were out in the boonies, as my mom calls it, and the Internet was slow.

We waited.  And waited.  Everyone was making uncomfortable small talk. Can this lady afford me?

“All clear!” Tanya exclaimed.  The funds had gone through and the next thing I know, we are in Auntie Amelia’s car heading back to the city.

There I was, lying on my new momma’s lap.

I was terrified.  I had never been in a car before.

The lady stroked my head. “It’s okay Appy.  You are safe.  You are coming home to your new family.  You’re coming home to me and Sambuca.”

Here we go again. What’s a sambuca?

“And then, in a few days, we will all drive home to Sackville, New Brunswick.  That’s where I live,”

Oh, my goodness.  So many things to learn. Red wine, auntie, sambuca and now Sackville?

All I knew is I was sleepy from all the waiting. It was a long day. YAWN.

My eyelids felt heavy.

Tanya and Auntie Amelia chatted away as we drove. I felt Tanya’s hand stroking my head.

Time for sleep.

And that, folks, is how I met my mom.
