I love da food. I just love anything that I can eat. To be honest, da food loves me too.
I love having my breakfast. I love having supper. I love having treats. I love whatever Tanya gives me. Sometimes our treats are human foods like a carrot, a piece of broccoli, a piece of apple, and on special occasions, we go in the car to see a person in a window and momma gets us something called a Timbit. Delicious! My momma is pretty strict about portions and my Sis and I have to share half of a half of the Timbit. I could eat the whole thing in one bite, but momma says no.
When we go on walks, my sniffer is on high alert. There are so many incredible smells on the streets, in yards and on the pathways. Sometimes I get lucky and there is a TREASURE for me, meaning a morsel of deliciousness. But, before I can get to it, I usually get summoned. “Appy, let’s go!”
But I don’t always comply. Just ten more seconds momma.
“Appy! I said, let’s GO!” I feel a tug on my leash.
I fight for two seconds and strike gold. Next thing she knows, I am chopping on something.
“Appy! Appy!” It’s the same every time. Tanya kneels to the ground and tries to open my mouth.
Sambuca is near us and stares. Really! What did you find now?
Tanya succeeds and pulls the tasty bite out and stares at it. “Pizza crust???!!! No, no, no Appy!” She flings my scrumptious snack into a bush.
Note to self: Mark that for tomorrow morning’s walk.
“How many times have I told you….”
Yada. Yada. Yada. Same old song.
I don’t get that she doesn’t get that I am hungry. Always. Doesn’t matter the time of day or if I just had breakfast or dinner, I love food. Super Pup needs her energy!
We continue our walk.
I turn to Sambuca. Hey, how come you are not interested in food like me?
I eat when I am hungry or when Tanya gives me a treat. Before you came along, my food dish was always on the floor.
I stop walking. Really? Wow! With food?
Tanya pulls on our leashes to keep moving.
Sambuca shrugs. Yes, with food. I would eat when I felt like it.
I was amazed at such a concept. I wonder if I asked Tanya to do that for me would she go for it.
Nope, forget about it, Sambuca piped in. It was like she read my mind.
Not going to happen now that you are here, kid. She never refilled my bowl on a continuous basis. I just wouldn’t eat all my breakfast in one quick swoop like you.
Geez. So judgemental. I will have to think about it.
We get back home and get our standard dog treat after a walk. Delicious. It’s always just one.
I sometimes wonder, can this lady afford two dogs?
Sambuca and I settle into our spots on the couch for a nap as our human goes about her Saturday routine.
Some time goes by and suddenly we hear, “Girls! It’s movie time!”
Movie time. What’s that? I turn to Sambuca.
This is fun and relaxing for our mom and for us, she tells me.
Out comes a big pillow like the one Tanya has on her bed and a large blanket. She turns on the television. I see big letters on the screen, N-E-T-F-L-I-X. She uses her clicker thing and is talking to herself. “Nah, not this one. Hmm, maybe this one. No, not good ratings.”
Yawn. Might as well get settled back my cozy spot.
“This one!” Tanya exclaims.
I open one eye.
We are almost ready, Sambuca tells me.
Tanya gets up and goes to the kitchen. She returns with a glass filled with something she calls Pepsi. She is also carrying a huge bowl.
Now I am intrigued. What’s this? I am up and trying to sniff the bowl.
“You have to wait App. We all have popcorn while we watch the movie.”
Sambuca lies down next to Tanya as she gets situated with her drink and bowl.
What’s popcorn? I turn to Sambuca.
Wait for it, she tells me. It’s amazing!
Tanya grabs her clicker thing again. The TV starts to play. She’s totally focused. Me, not so much as I stare at the bowl.
She grabs a handful from the bowl and puts it in her mouth. Crunch. Crunch. Crunch.
She repeats this a few more times. Then she takes a sip of her Pepsi.
I place a paw on her arm. Excuse me momma, but did you forget about me?
You mean, us? Sambuca gazes up to Tanya.
Crunch. Crunch.
“Oh, you want some popcorn?” Tanya coos to Sambuca. Here you go my love” and gives her a piece.
Me. Me. Me next!
What are you waiting for? I’m right here. Give it to me.
“I think this is your first time, little one. Sit. Sit” she instructs.
C’mon Lady, just let me put my face in the bowl.
“Appy, sit.” Her voice goes up a notch.
Fine. I sit. And I get one piece. Crunch.
“You like it, Appy?”
I wag my tail. I get another piece and so does Sambuca.
We each get more. It’s not bad. Not bad at all! Some pieces taste saltier than others, but me not picky.
Tanya turns to watch her movie, munching her popcorn and drinking her Pepsi.
She continues to share her treat with us. She is a great mom that way.
Now I know. Movie equals popcorn and my snack portfolio grows. Another lesson learned.
I love popcorn. And popcorn loves me.
